Jābir (رضي الله عنه) reported: “I fell ill, and the Prophet (ﷺ) came to visit me, along with Abū Bakr, both walking on foot. I was unconscious and could not speak to him. He performed wuḍūʾ and poured over me, and I came around. I said: ‘O Messenger of Allāh, how should I handle my wealth when I have only sisters ?’ He did not reply until the verse of inheritance was revealed: ‘They ask you for a legal verdict. Say: Allāh directs you regarding al-kalāla …If a man dies without leaving a child but has a sister…’ (al-Nisāʾ, 4:176).” Reference: Musnad Aḥmad 28

Jābir (رضي الله عنه) reported: “The Messenger of Allāh (ﷺ) said: ‘If the wealth of Bahrain arrives, I will give you this much, this much, and this much,’ gesturing with his hands three times. When the wealth of Bahrain arrived after the death of the Messenger of Allāh (ﷺ), Abū Bakr announced: ‘Whoever is owed a debt by the Messenger of Allāh (ﷺ), or was made a promise, let him come to us.’ So I came and said: ‘The Messenger of Allāh (ﷺ) promised: “If the wealth of Bahrain arrives, I will give you this much, this much, and this much,” three times.’ [Abū Bakr] said: ‘Take it.’ So I took it (some of those who heard the account said it amounted to five hundred ). Then I came back to him and he did not give me. I came again and he did not give me. I came a third time and he still did not give me. I said: ‘Either give me, or admit your miserliness (bukhl) toward me.’ He said: ‘Did you say I am being miserly with you? What ailment is worse than miserliness? I truly wanted to give you every time you came, but I was preoccupied with other affairs.’” Reference: Musnad Aḥmad 31

Jābir (رضي الله عنه) reported: “Muʿādh used to pray with the Messenger of Allāh (ﷺ) and then return to lead us in prayer (on another occasion [Jābir said]: to pray with his people). One night, the Prophet (ﷺ) delayed the prayer, or as he said on another occasion, delayed the ʿIshāʾ. So Muʿādh prayed with the Prophet (ﷺ), then came to lead his people and recited Sūrat al-Baqara. A man from the congregation separated and prayed on his own. He was told: ‘You have become a hypocrite, so-and-so!’ He replied: ‘I am no hypocrite.’ He then went to the Prophet (ﷺ) and said: ‘Messenger of Allāh, Muʿādh prays with you and then comes back to lead us in prayer. We are people with water-hauling camels and we work with our hands, yet he came and led us in prayer reciting Sūrat al-Baqara.’ The Prophet (ﷺ) said: ‘O Muʿādh, are you putting people to trial? Are you putting people to trial? Recite such-and-such .’ Abū al-Zubayr added: ‘ “Glorify the Name of your Lord Most High” (al-Aʿlā, 87) and “By the night when it covers” (al-Layl, 92).’ We mentioned this to ʿAmr and he said: ‘I believe Jābir did mention them .’” Reference: Musnad Aḥmad 33

Sufyān ibn ʿUyaynah narrated to us from ʿAmr ibn Dīnār, who said he heard Jābir ibn ʿAbdullāh say, “On the day of al-Ḥudaybiyyah we were one thousand four hundred, and the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) ﷺ said to us, ‘You are today the best of the people of the earth.’” Reference: Musnad Aḥmad 39

Sufyān ibn ʿUyaynah narrated to us from ʿAmr ibn Dīnār, who said he heard Jābir say, “On the day of Uḥud a man said to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) ﷺ, ‘Can you tell me where I will be if I am killed?’ He replied, ‘In Paradise.’ The man then threw away some dates that were in his hand and fought until he was killed.” Reference: Musnad Aḥmad 40
