Jābir (رضي الله عنه) reported: “On the day of the Battle of the Trench (al-Khandaq), the Messenger of Allāh (ﷺ) called for a volunteer, and al-Zubayr came forward. He called again, and al-Zubayr came forward. He called a third time, and al-Zubayr came forward. The Messenger of Allāh (ﷺ) then said: ‘Every prophet has a ḥawārī , and my ḥawārī is al-Zubayr.’” Sufyān added: “I heard Ibn al-Munkadir narrate this in this very mosque.” Reference: Musnad Aḥmad 27
