ʿAbdullāh ibn ʿAbbās (may Allah be pleased with both of them) reported, through ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz ibn Rufayʿ: Shaddād ibn Maʿqil and I went in to see Ibn ʿAbbās, and he said, “The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) ﷺ left behind nothing except what is between these two covers .” We then went in to see Muḥammad ibn ʿAlī , and he said the same. [ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz added:] Al-Mukhtār used to call this “revelation” . Reference: Musnad Aḥmad 273
