حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، عَنْ حُمَيْدٍ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ، أَنَّ جَنَازَةً مَرَّتْ بِالنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَقِيلَ لَهَا خَيْرًا، وَتَتَابَعَتِ الْأَلْسُنُ لَهَا بِالْخَيْرِ. فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «وَجَبَتْ». ثُمَّ مَرَّتْ جَنَازَةٌ أُخْرَى، فَقَالُوا لَهَا شَرًّا، وَتَتَابَعَتِ الْأَلْسُنُ لَهَا بِالشَّرِّ. فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «وَجَبَتْ، أَنْتُمْ شُهَدَاءُ اللَّهِ فِي الْأَرْضِ».
Anas ibn Mālik (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: A funeral procession passed by the Prophet (ﷺ) ﷺ. People praised the deceased and kept praising him, so the Prophet (ﷺ) ﷺ said, “It is affirmed .” Then another funeral procession passed by, and people spoke ill of the deceased and kept saying bad things about him, so the Prophet (ﷺ) ﷺ said, “It is affirmed . You are Allah’s witnesses on earth.” Reference: Musnad Aḥmad 208
