Anas ibn Mālik (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: “On the day of Badr, the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) ﷺ said: ‘Who will go and see what has happened to Abū Jahl?’ Ibn Masʿūd set out and found him: the two sons of ʿAfrāʾ had struck him until he had fallen to his knees. He grabbed him by the beard and said: ‘Are you Abū Jahl?’ He said: ‘And is there anything nobler than a man whom his people have killed, or whom you have killed?’” Reference: Musnad Aḥmad 188
