Anas ibn Mālik (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: On the day of Uḥud the Prophet (ﷺ) ﷺ had his forehead wounded, his front lower tooth broken, and was struck upon both shoulders. Blood was streaming down his face and he was wiping it away while saying: “How can a people ever succeed who have done this to their Prophet as he calls them to Allah?” Thereupon Allah revealed: ﴾It is not for you to decide — whether He turns to them in mercy or punishes them, for they are indeed wrongdoers﴿ [Āl ʿImrān 3:128].
