Jābir (رضي الله عنه) reported: “We were with Abū ʿUbayda, sent by the Prophet (ﷺ) with him on an expedition. Our provisions ran out. We came across a large whale (ḥūt) that the sea had cast ashore. We wanted to eat from it, but Abū ʿUbayda initially forbade us . Then he said: ‘We are the envoys of the Messenger of Allāh (ﷺ) and we are in the way of Allāh; eat.’ So we ate from it for several days. When we returned, we told the Messenger of Allāh (ﷺ) about it and he said: ‘If any of it remains with you, send some to us.’” Reference: Musnad Aḥmad 16
